FCSB vs Manchester United referee confirmed as club granted officials from top five league
UEFA have confirmed who will officiate Manchester United’s trip to face Romanian side FCSB in the Europa League during the final matchday of the 2024/25 league phase.
Manchester United are set to play their final Europa League group stage match on Thursday evening as they travel to Romania to face FCSB.
After beginning the competition with three consecutive draws, United have since hit their stride, winning four games on the bounce. This run of form has propelled them from 21st to 4th in the Europa League standings, with Rúben Amorim determined to make this tournament his first major success at the club.
Last week, United secured a vital European win against Rangers before edging past Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League. These results mean United have won four of their six matches in 2025 so far, but they face a stern test in FCSB.
The Romanian side are currently 8th in the standings and must win to stay in the top eight, which guarantees direct progression to the knockout stages.
Clubs finishing between 9th and 24th will be forced into a two-legged play-off to progress, while the bottom eight teams will exit the competition entirely.
UEFA have confirmed who will officiate the tie as referees from the Bundesliga are selected.
Confirmed officials
German official Harm Osmers (pictured below) will be the referee on Thursday evening in Bucharest. Osmers has officiated nine Bundesliga matches this season and five in UEFA competitions.
Osmers has never officiated Manchester United in any capacity, but does have experience with English clubs, having refereed ties involving Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Across the three fixtures, he has handed out four yellow cards and one penalty, with Arsenal winning a tie against Bodo/Glimt in 2022, while Tottenham defeated Lokomotiv Plovdiv in 2020 and lost against Vitesse Arnhem in 2021.
So far this season, Osmers has issued 39 yellow cards in the Bundesliga and 97 across all competitions. He has issued one red card, as a result of two yellows cards, and has awarded seven penalties this season, three coming in the Bundesliga.
Dominik Schaal and Stefan Lupp will serve as Osmers’ assistant referees during the game. Florian Exner will be the fourth official on Thursday evening, separating Amorim and Elias Charalambous.
Benjamin Brand has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Patrick Hanslbauer will act as assistant VAR.
