Fabrizio Romano: Ruben Amorim has “maximum respect” for one Manchester United star despite planning summer exit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ruben Amorim has “maximum respect” for one Manchester United player despite the club’s plans to see them depart this summer.

Manchester United are set for a busy summer transfer window to help improve the squad at the disposal of head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim, who joined the club in November last year, has experienced major difficulties since arriving at Old Trafford and a squad refresh is needed.

New signings are important but sales will be just as crucial for the club as they look to move on many players from the current squad.

That will help United generate extra funds for their transfer kitty. There are also players who are expected to depart when their contracts end later this summer.

Fabrizio Romano says Amorim has “maximum respect” for departing Red

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that veteran defender Jonny Evans will be leaving the club this summer and added that the 37-year-old has the “maximum respect” of United and Amorim.

Evans re-joined his boyhood club in the summer of 2023 as a surprise signing under Erik ten Hag.

Initially, he was only expected to provide experience behind-the-scenes but ended up having an important role to play across the season due to a defensive injury crisis.

This season he has been less involved – with only six starts – which is partly due to his own injury problems but also Amorim’s preference to bring through younger talent.

“Jonny Evans is about to leave the club, we have already said about Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen. These players will go,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel this week.

“We have to add Jonny Evans to this list. There is maximum respect from Manchester United but the idea is to move on and trust young players next season.

“They prefer to include young players as part of the team as Ruben Amorim has done this season with Ayden Heaven and more players.

“That is the view, that is what Ruben Amorim wants to do. Again, with maximum respect for Jonny Evans, who’s about to leave the club at the end of the season.”

Evans will want Europa League glory send off

Evans has just over a month left at Old Trafford and he has recently returned to team training at Carrington after recovering from injury.

He would certainly love to help his team in the Europa League as they approach the second-leg of their quarter-final against Lyon.

It would be a brilliant send-off for a great professional but it is the right approach for United to focus on these younger players.

Heaven’s performances have proven that these untested prospects can offer you something and there is certainly more talent within the walls at Carrington wanting to make that step up.
