Fabrizio Romano has revealed what Brentford have been “constantly” saying to Manchester United during their negotiations over Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United are continuing negotiations over what would be their second signing of the summer, as a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo edges closer.
Rúben Amorim, who brought in Matheus Cunha earlier this month, is looking to add more depth to his front line, though talks with Brentford have proven to be a drawn-out process.
United saw their opening £55 million bid rejected in early June, and a second offer—consisting of the same fee plus £7.5 million in add-ons—was also turned down by the London club.
Despite Brentford’s resistance, there remains optimism that an agreement will be reached. Should Mbeumo complete his move to Old Trafford, United will turn their attention to outgoings and continue their pursuit of a striker and midfielder before the Premier League kicks off in mid-August.
Brentford have been very clear in negotiations for Mbeumo
United remain in active negotiations with Brentford over the signing of Mbeumo, despite reports suggesting their latest bid was rejected. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are still in discussions, with United calm and optimistic about reaching an agreement.
The winger has made it clear that he wants the move, having told Brentford he gives “total priority” to joining United this summer.
One key factor in the talks is Brentford’s valuation of Mbeumo. Romano explains on his YouTube channel that Brentford “constantly” refer to the price tags of other players on the market when discussing their own demands, which has led them to seek a higher fee than United have so far offered.
Despite this, negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days. As it stands, no deal has been agreed, but United are determined to push ahead. With Mbeumo fully committed to the move and both clubs still in contact, the deal is very much alive, which is a boost for Amorim.
United’s new wage structure will improve the club
Brentford’s confidence in knowing that they can reject an offer totalling £62.5 million and still expect United at the table is the consequence of United creating an image of being a club that bends to extortionate demands.
The club have become better at negotiations in the last few months in terms of convincing players to join their project, but areas for improvement remain in club-to-club talks, and this will take a while to rectify.

However, the new wage structure that United are implementing is a vast improvement. According to recent reports, both Cunha and Mbeumo will receive a base salary of £150,000 per week each, which is half of what Marcus Rashford is currently paid.
With bonuses and Champions League qualification, this wage will exceed £200,000 a week; however, if this happens, it means the individual signings and the team have been successful.
United have been in desperate need to lower the wage packages they are spending on players each year, and signing both Cunha and Mbeumo up to reasonable salaries is a significant first step.
