Fabrizio Romano has revealed a unique difference in Benjamin Šeško’s Manchester United contract that breaks a current trend.
Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Benjamin Šeško as Rúben Amorim looks to secure his fourth first-team addition at Old Trafford this summer.
After United’s top scorer last season, Bruno Fernandes, netted 19 in all competitions, and only three others hit double figures, Amorim decided he needed a new-look front line.
The club responded by signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in attack for an outlay just shy of £130 million, while 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon also joined the club after initially agreeing to a move earlier this year.
United submitted a package worth around £74 million, including add-ons for Šeško, amid interest from Newcastle, but it’s expected the Slovenian will sign for the Old Trafford club this week.
United make unique change ot Šeško’s contract
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Šeško’s contract with United has been agreed, with the 22-year-old set to sign a five-year deal lasting until 2030.
“Manchester United reached an agreement with Benjamin Šeško and with his agent after talks on Tuesday, very, very positive,” Romano stated on YouTube.
“Wednesday morning, after being sent the final draft, they got the final green light, in paper also. So contract until June 2030 for Benjamin Šeško.”
However, while United have included the option to extend almost every contract by a further season in all their recent deals, this has not been included in Šeško’s deal, which is a rather unique circumstance and a departure from the club’s current pattern.
“My understanding is that at the moment there is no option to extend for a further season, but let’s see if maybe during the negotiations this could change, but at the moment no,” Romaon said. “So, five-year deal for Benjamin Šeško, contract agreed, salary agreed, commission agreed, everything okay.”
United ironing out the final Šeško steps
With a contract in place for Šeško, United are now optimistic about reaching an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
United’s offer of £63.5 million, plus £8.5 million in add-ons, matches Leipzig’s ballpark valuation, although discussions are still ongoing regarding the deal’s structure.
Of the add-ons included, around £4.2 million are considered easily achievable, making the offer even more appealing to Leipzig.
Jacobs also shares that the striker is now waiting for the green light to travel as the final details between the clubs are worked out.
