Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United “really trust” exciting star despite Ruben Amorim’s Man City snub

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United ‘really trust’ one star even though Ruben Amorim has snubbed him for the game against Manchester City.

Manchester United start to the season has been shaky, with just one win, one draw and two defeats in the opening four games of the 2025/26 campaign.

A narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal came on the opening weekend, where United showed glimpses of promise despite the result.

That was followed by a lacklustre 1-1 draw at Fulham, before disaster struck in the Carabao Cup; a shock penalty shootout exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town after a 2-2 draw.

Ruben Amorim’s first victory finally arrived against Burnley, as Bruno Fernandes converted a stoppage-time penalty to snatch a dramatic 3-2 win.

Now, after the international break, attention turns to a derby showdown with Manchester City, where Amorim will be demanding far more clinical edge from his players.

Romano reveals United “really trust” exciting star

Amorim confirmed in his pre-game press conference that Altay Bayındır would continue between the sticks even though Senne Lammens has joined the club.

Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp and is expected to eventually become the new first-choice ‘keeper at Old Trafford but he has been snubbed in this first game back in action.

Despite this, Fabrizio Romano has explained how much those at United trust the exciting Belgian and how there is a belief that he’s one of the ‘best young goalkeepers in the world’.

“I think Manchester United really trust him (Lammens) for the present and also for the future. They believe that this is one of the best young goalkeepers in the world,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“They wanted Lammens strongly, and they decided to go for him because they believe he’s the solution for the present and future. And I’m sure that Lammens has very good chances to be the starting goalkeeper at Manchester United.”

Lammens will get chances soon

It is probably the correct decision for United to hold fire with giving Lammens his debut. Playing against your rivals away from home is not an ideal debut for anyone, let alone a goalkeeper.

Bayındır should be looking at these next games as a huge opportunity too. He is on thin ice in terms of commanding his box but has looked surprisingly solid when distributing the ball.

If he can show some more dominance inside his area, the Turkish international might be able to show that he deserves more chances going forward.

But even though he is starting the game against City, it is clear that those at United believe that Lammens can make a big impact soon.
