Fabrizio Romano has explained where Gianluigi Donnarumma is most likely to move to this summer amid Manchester United’s interest.
Manchester United have made four signings this summer, with Rúben Amorim determined to bolster the spine of his squad at Old Trafford.
The club moved quickly at the start of the window, announcing Matheus Cunha’s arrival on day one and completing the transfer two weeks later. Bryan Mbeumo declared his interest in joining in early June, but it took six weeks of negotiations with Brentford before the deal was done.
Amid those moves, United secured 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon, whose performances at Carrington have already put him on the fringes of the senior squad.
The marquee addition came with the signing of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, pushing total summer spending to around £214 million. United’s business is not over, with a midfielder and a goalkeeper still being pursued.
Donnarumma’s most likely destination
With a new goalkeeper a concrete possibility in the coming weeks, United have been closely linked with Paris St. Germain shot-stopper and Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 26-year-old has been frozen out of Luis Enrique’s squad for their UEFA Super Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur, despite his fantastic performances in the Champions League, with Lucas Chevalier now the top pick for the position.
According to reports, United are scheduled to meet with Donnarumma’s representatives this week, and according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the goalkeeper’s most likely destination this summer looks to be the Premier League.
Despite the two parties having engaged in contract extension talks earlier this year, the relationship is now completely broken, with Donnarumma certain to leave the Parisian side.
Wages will dictate Donnarumma’s move to United
If Amorim decides to target a first-choice goalkeeper this summer, Donnarumma stands out as the leading candidate. At 26, he fits perfectly into INEOS’ preferred age profile and brings the blend of experience and authority expected in the position.

The challenge lies in his current PSG salary, reportedly around £300,000 a week, which would make negotiations far from straightforward.
United are aiming to rein in their wage bill, with only Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro expected to remain above the £300,000-a-week mark once the window closes, assuming Jadon Sancho departs.
For Donnarumma to make the move, he would need to accept a reduced salary, and persuading him to do so would require some exceptional convincing from United’s hierarchy, particularly as the Italian will be seeking a major contract at this stage of his career.
