Fabrizio Romano reveals full details of Rúben Amorim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe meeting as Man Utd owner flies into Carrington

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the full details about Rúben Amorim’s recent meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe amid Manchester United’s current struggles.

After finishing last season in interim charge, Rúben Amorim’s first full campaign at Manchester United has begun badly, with just one win, one draw, and three defeats from their opening matches of 2025/26.

A 1-0 loss to Arsenal started the season, though the performance offered some encouragement. That was followed by a flat 1-1 draw at Fulham before United crashed out of the Carabao Cup to League Two Grimsby Town, beaten on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Their sole victory so far came in dramatic fashion against Burnley, sealed by Bruno Fernandes’ last-minute penalty in a 3-2 win.

But after the international break, United were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, leaving Amorim facing growing pressure over his future at Old Trafford.

Full details of Ratcliffe’s meeting with Amorim

On Thursday evening, reports broke that United co-owner and head of INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, had flown into Carrington via helicopter to hold multiple meetings with key staff members and decision makers at the club.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ratcliffe, who invested heavily in the summer and backed Amorim with over £200 million worth of signings, wanted clarity on the team’s struggles.

Amorim made his stance clear: the issue is not the system or philosophy but the intensity and execution of his players.

Romano detailed on his YouTube channel that the head coach has told directors, senior management, and now Ratcliffe that changing the philosophy would mean changing the manager himself.

Ratcliffe left the meeting with a firm understanding of Amorim’s determination to stick by his methods. The focus, Amorim argues, must be on results rather than altering his tactical approach, with the coming fixtures now crucial for both manager and ownership.

United are not searching for a new manager

Amid the poor start to the season, United have been linked with a host of potential managerial candidates, with some reports suggesting that a five-man replacement list has already been drawn up by the powerbrokers at Old Trafford.

But, Romano further clarified that the club have not begun any official conversations with alternatives to Amorim.

United’s hierarchy continues to back Amorim, with respect for the manager clear inside the club. The focus remains on improving performances and results, though Romano stresses that patience will not last indefinitely.

Amorim himself is said to be fully aware of the pressure and the need for a turnaround, as United cannot continue in their current form. For now, the Portuguese coach retains the backing of the hierarchy, but results must improve quickly.

Across the next few weeks, United host Chelsea at Old Trafford, before travelling to face Bryan Mbeumo’s former club, Brentford, in West London. They will then return to Manchester to face Sunderland, with a tie away against Liverpool coming after the October international break.
