Erik ten Hag has different plans for Manchester United’s young duo of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The two wingers signed for United in the summer of 2020, however, Amad’s deal was not fully complete until the following January due to work permit issues.

Opportunities at Old Trafford have been few and far between for the pair so far, but they’ve both taken strides forward this season.

Pellistri made his debut for the club against Charlton in January and has played eight times since then, impressing in several of the cameos. Meanwhile, Amad stamped his authority on the Championship at Sunderland on loan, being one of the best young players across the entire league.

This has led to United preparing to offer both players extended contracts at Old Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano, who added that the club are already in advanced talks with Pellistri’s camp regarding a deal, whilst they will begin discussions with Amad’s camp in the coming months.

For the upcoming season, their situations could be set to change too. Erik ten Hag wants to assess Amad in pre-season to see if he’s ready to compete for a position in the squad, whilst Pellistri is more likely to spend the campaign on loan.

“Erik ten Hag is really happy with Facundo Pellistri, he is convinced that is very talented. Pellistri is doing very well in training,” explained Fabrizio Romano. “They want to give him a new long-term deal and then discuss in the summer a potential loan move for him.”

“The idea of Erik ten Hag is to give Amad a chance in pre-season, to check and test him in the pre-season tour and then to see what they want to do with him, whether he can stay in the squad for next season.”
