Fabrizio Romano provides latest update on ‘very happy’ Manchester United star after Michael Carrick talk

Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest updates on one ‘very happy’ Manchester United star after the win over Manchester City.

Manchester United turned in an authoritative display to earn a 2–0 Premier League win against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

United dictated proceedings from start to finish, with Michael Carrick’s men impressing through their organisation at the back and menace going forward.

Although they scored five times on the night, three goals were chalked off for narrow offside decisions. Undeterred, strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu confirmed a valuable victory that fully reflected United’s dominance.

Kobbie Mainoo made his first Premier League start of the season after falling out of favour under Amorim and he was one of United’s standout performers on the day.

It wasn’t long ago when it seemed like Mainoo would be demanding a loan exit in the January window. He was denied that chance in the previous summer.

But now with the managerial change at Old Trafford, it appears that the midfielder is set to stay at Old Trafford and Fabrizio Romano has explained how he is ‘very happy’ about playing under Carrick.

“Zero [Premier League] starts under Ruben Amorim and then Kobbie Mainoo started the Manchester derby under Michael Carrick and he had a fantastic performance,” the Italian reporter stated.

“Kobbie is very happy about this new opportunity, now he feels important and Kobbie never wanted to leave Manchester United on a permanent deal, it was only a loan to get minutes and develop.

“It was never the plan to leave Manchester United on a permanent deal and now he has the opportunity to play at Man United, he’s more than happy and so I think Kobbie Mainoo is going to stay at the club.

Mainoo’s talks with Carrick

At full-time on the weekend, Carrick walked over to most of his players but it was his hug and smile with Mainoo which fans noticed the most.

The new United boss has previously explained how much he rates the young midfielder and his immediate trust in him against City shows that too.

Recent reports detailed that Carrick had pulled Mainoo aside in training sessions at Carrington before that game to talk to him about details which can help his game.

The ex-midfielder also explained to the 20-year-old how highly he rates him, and that he thinks he can still improve further, and that is what he will be hoping to do in the coming months.
