Fabrizio Romano provides fresh update on Ruben Amorim amid Man Utd sack rumours, important three word message

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest on the possibility of Rúben Amorim being sacked by Manchester United.

After Erik ten Hag was dismissed last October, Ineos turned to Rúben Amorim to lead a new era at Old Trafford, following his impressive spell at Sporting Lisbon.

When he arrived, Amorim warned that a storm would come, but even he could not have predicted the situation Manchester United now face, with questions already being asked about his future.

In 33 Premier League matches under his guidance, United have collected only 34 points. There was some promise in the Europa League, but their campaign ended in disappointment with defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

A summer outlay of around £214 million was expected to spark progress, yet inconsistency continues to define Amorim’s side. They are still searching for back-to-back league victories.

Six games into the new season, United sit 14th in the table. Their two wins have come in fortunate circumstances, one from a stoppage-time penalty against Burnley and the other after Chelsea were reduced to ten men early in the match.

Fabrizio Romano gives latest sack update

After a poor start to the season, it’s natural that talks have started around who could replace Amorim at Old Trafford, despite Ineos reportedly still backing the Portuguese coach.

Despite reports stating that the United higher-ups have full confidence in Amorim, if these poor results continue, surely they must think that a change is needed.

Writing for GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano gave the latest on the situation surrounding Amorim’s job security, stating that the United boss is ‘not 100% safe’ even though there is still nothing concrete on an exit.

He said, “No movements on that now. We will see in the next weeks, but nothing concrete into it now. For sure, he’s not 100% safe, and the club is considering the whole situation.”

No clear front-runners for the job

If Manchester United decide to part ways with Rúben Amorim, there is no obvious candidate who would both excite supporters and realistically take the job.

Unai Emery, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have all been mentioned, but Gareth Southgate has recently emerged as the leading contender, with reports of direct contact from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In the aftermath of United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford, Joe Cole suggested that the former England manager would be the ‘perfect’ successor to Erik ten Hag, praising his man-management skills and ability to lift morale in the dressing room.

However, Southgate has not managed at club level for more than 15 years, and doubts remain over whether any of the Premier League managers linked with the role could handle the pressure that comes with Old Trafford.

There is also the wider question of whether it would be worth the risk for a manager to leave their current project in order to take on what has become one of the toughest jobs in football.
