Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United’s true feelings on André Onana’s “bad” performances
Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has been drawing criticism for his performances in recent months for Ruben Amorim’s side.
André Onana has been raising more concerns than confidence in goal lately, repeatedly making the same costly errors for Manchester United.
Earlier this month against Spurs, the Cameroon shot-stopper palmed the ball directly into James Maddison’s path, leading to the game’s only goal.
In the 2-2 draw with Everton, he was at fault for multiple errors, including one that resulted in a last-minute penalty—though VAR came to his rescue.
Most recently, in United’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, the 28-year-old was arguably responsible for both goals conceded.
This has raised major concerns within the fanbase, who would like to see Altay Bayindir in goal when he returns from injury.
Fabrizio Romano reveals United’s true feelings on Onana
United are looking to make major changes in the summer transfer window and almost no player will be safe from a potential exit.
However, the executives at Old Trafford are understanding that player form this year is difficult because the entire team is underperforming.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United chiefs are not currently putting Onana under the microscope for his “bad” performances.
“It’s a difficult season for many players, not only Onana,” the Italian journalist noted on his GiveMeSport column.
“Strikers are not scoring, wing backs are suffering… it’s part of a difficult season, this is how they see this bad moment for Onana.”
Amorim agrees with United chiefs about Onana
United head coach Ruben Amorim has a similar opinion to those above him and defended Onana in his latest press conference.
“For sure, [Onana has had] some difficult moments but he did some great saves that saved our team and then sometimes [he] had some problems,” the 40-year-old told journalists.

“But that is normal and I think if you look through our team, you can find a lot of players with that issue. So, I think we are not performing so well as a team and sometimes players have problems.”
Onana will be hoping to turn around his form soon and he will be starting between the sticks in the FA Cup against Fulham on the weekend, with Bayindir still unavailable for selection.
The Cameroon shot-stopper has already made 86 appearances for United since joining in the summer of 2023 and will expect to reach the 100-mark before the end of the season.
Only eight other current United players have reached that landmark, with those being Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Bruno Fernandes, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho.
