After an executive meeting last week, Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United’s final stance on Erik ten Hag’s future.

Erik ten Hag is under increasing scrutiny as Manchester United‘s struggles continue, leaving their 2024/25 season hanging in the balance.

Currently 14th in the Premier League and sitting outside the top eight in their Europa League group after back-to-back draws, the club’s poor run of form has led to growing discontent among the fans, with many calling for a change in leadership.

Although there were widespread rumours that Ten Hag would be dismissed during the October international break, a 0-0 draw against a tough Aston Villa side seems to have bought him more time.

The Dutchman will return to Carrington on Monday to resume preparations for United’s next test, a home match against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

United’s confirms stance

United’s leadership team met in London last Tuesday as part of a pre-organised executive committee meeting. The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the future of Ten Hag.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ten Hag was never close to being sacked during the international break and will prepare for the Brentford game as usual.

“Erik ten Hag didn’t receive a formal communication from Manchester United’s board telling him ‘okay, you are staying’ because Manchester United’s management never felt that they had to tell the manager something,” Romano explained.

“They discussed about this situation, they discussed about the problems they have, the slow start in Premier League and Europa League, but they never had to tell something directly to Erik ten Hag like ‘okay, confirmed you are staying’ or ‘no you are being fired’.

“Manchester United insisted that he was never really close to being fired this week or last week – this is the feeling they have.

“They are discussing the position of Ten Hag, for sure, but it was never something close to being resolved in the recent days with Ten Hag being fired, so this is the position of the club.

“This is why Ten Hag has always been focused on the Brentford game – improving the situation in terms of results, in terms of performances.”
