Manchester United are set to hold discussions surrounding the future of one player now the club have gained a better idea of how long Benjamin Šeško’s injury will keep him on the sidelines.
After picking up what appears to be a knee injury in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw away at Tottenham, according to manager Rúben Amorim, new signing Benjamin Šeško could be set for some time out of the team.
This has since led to speculation over potential activity in the approaching January transfer window, with the Reds also set to lose Amad and Bryan Mbeumo to AFCON duty.
With Rúben Amorim being potentially left light up top heading into the winter period, this has now begun to impact the future of one of United’s out-of-favour centre forwards, who could potentially be heading towards the exit door this January, depending on the severity of Šeško’s injury.
Zirkzee set for showdown talks
Having yet to start a game or even play 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, it’s safe to say Joshua Zirkzee is not one of the first names on the team sheet for Rúben Amorim.
Being unhappy with his playing time and also wanting to earn himself a place in Ronald Koeman’s Dutch squad for the World Cup, Zirkzee has reportedly been looking at a loan move away in January, with clubs such as West Ham and AS Roma being mentioned.
However, with Šeško potentially being on the sidelines for the near future, Zirkzee’s future may still lie at United, with Amorim potentially needing as much cover in forward positions as he can.
According to the latest reports from Fabrizio Romano, United representatives will soon discuss Zirkzee’s future with him and the possibility of a potential loan move away in January, but only once the club has more clarity on how severe the injury to Šeško is.
Potential activity for United in January
Amorim was not ruling out any potential moves in January during his post-match press conference after the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Tottenham. “Let’s see when the window opens.” he said.
Despite the promising performances from Casemiro of late, the midfield is still an area of the pitch that United will be actively looking to strengthen, with many big names being previously mentioned, such as Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.
However, these are names that would likely be more set to be summer moves, with neither Nottingham Forest nor Crystal Palace likely to sanction a move away this January, leaving options few and far between for United.
With United’s forward line set to take a hit anyway throughout the winter months, with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo set to join their countries at AFCON until latest January 18th, United could potentially look at bringing in reinforcements up front.
But with no solid rumors or names really doing the rounds at the moment, it is yet to be seen whether United will act this January transfer window, and will have to wait and see if any opportunities for Amorim’s side are to appear in the coming weeks.
