Fabrizio Romano hints at Man Utd transfer collapse while two Ruben Amorim midfield targets identified

Fabrizio Romano has hinted that one Manchester United transfer could collapse this summer while two midfield targets for Ruben Amorim have been identified.

Manchester United are desperate to improve their underperforming forward line this summer after a dreadful campaign last time out.

They have already signed Matheus Cunha and are aiming to get a deal over the line for Bryan Mbeumo before pre-season training begins next week.

It is also important for the club to sell unwanted players in the coming weeks to help generate funds for the new signings Ruben Amorim desires.

There are plenty on the transfer list but it is looking difficult for United to move any of them on in a permanent transfer.

Rasmus Højlund is one of the players who is attracting some interest this summer but his sale is not straight forward.

Inter Milan have been regularly linked with the Danish striker in recent weeks but it has been revealed by Fabrizio Romano that any deal is currently on ‘standby’.

That is because the Italian side are unwilling to take Højlund on a permanent deal and would rather sign him on an initial loan, which is not something United are prepared to accept.

The full update from the journalist suggests that this deal is likely to collapse unless there is a major change from one of the clubs regarding their stance.

United identify two midfield targets

Meanwhile, United are still looking to try and improve their midfield this summer, even though any signing does rely on player exits.

Despite United’s difficulties in this department, they should still be able to generate at least £80 million from the sales of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, which may give them enough room for this.

It was reported by ESPN this week that, should the Reds boost their budget through these sales, there could be enough headroom for Atalanta midfielder Ederson or Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace to join.

Ederson has been regularly linked with an Old Trafford move while Wharton is the Premier League-proven option at a younger age. The England international would cost more though.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds can generate enough cash to meet Palace’s demands, or whether Wharton wants the move, but he is clearly someone those at Old Trafford are considering.
