Fabrizio Romano explains seven-word “message” Rúben Amorim sent to Matheus Cunha with talks “advanced”

Fabrizio Romano has explained a seven-word message that Rúben Amorim has sent to Matheus Cunha, with talks for his Manchester United transfer now “advanced”.

Manchester United are reportedly edging closer to an agreement to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha this summer as they look to bolster Rúben Amorim’s attacking options.

This season, the team has struggled with consistent goal-scoring, with much of the responsibility falling on captain Bruno Fernandes, particularly after Amad missed the last two months due to injury.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund have combined for just 18 goals this season, and only five players have surpassed ten goal involvements, with Marcus Rashford, who is set to be sold this summer, among them.

As a result, Amorim is targeting players who fit his 3-4-3 formation, with Cunha being an ideal fit for the left attacking role.

Amorim’s seven-word message to Cunha

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the club’s trip to face Bournemouth, Amorim was asked whether he feels the club will struggle to attract players this summer, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

“It is Manchester United,” Amorim said in reply. “What I feel is that there’s a lot of players that want to play for our club.” Amorim then went on to issue the seven-word statement of “everybody wants to play for Manchester United.”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since commented that this seven-word phrase was a direct “message” to Cunha ahead of his transfer.

“I wanted to start with the press conference of Rúben Amorim, Manchester United coach, who yesterday, first of all, sent a very clear message,” Romano said. “He said everyone wants to play for Manchester United. A strong message by Ruben Amorim.

“Why? Because Amorim didn’t want to comment on Matheus Cunha, but Matheus Cunha wants to go to Manchester United, and so this is the message from Rúben Amorim. He feels Man United are starting the summer transfer window very well with this Matheus Cunha deal ongoing.

“Not done yet, but well advanced. And so the message is even if we are not guaranteed in Champions League next season (it will depend on Europa League), [and] even if the moment for the club is not easy, Matheus Cunha is already prepared to commit to Manchester United’s project.”

Cunha to United is now “advanced”

Further on his X page, Romano confirmed that talks between Cunha’s representatives and United are now “advanced,” with the transfer feeling more of a case of when, not if.

As for his salary, it has been reported that Cunha is expected to hit the bracket of earning in excess of £200,000 a week.

This would put him as one of the club’s top three earners, provided that Jadon Sancho and Rashford are sold this summer as expected.

Amorim is known to be a big fan of Cunha’s abilities and versatility across his front three, and with the player notching his 15th Premier League goal of the season against Leicester City, he is well on his way to becoming the next attacking star to line up at Old Trafford.
