Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško amid Rúben Amorim’s hunt for a new striker.
Manchester United are aiming to rebuild their frontline this summer after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League, with a lack of goals playing a key role in their struggles.
Bruno Fernandes finished as the club’s top scorer with 19 goals, while only three other players reached double figures across all competitions.
In an effort to address their goalscoring issues, United have invested £127.5 million to sign wingers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who combined for 35 Premier League goals last season.
With those two attacking reinforcements secured, Rúben Amorim’s side are now focused on bringing in a central striker to lead the line.
United could unlock Šeško transfer this summer
With United not the only club in need of fresh attacking talent this summer, Arsenal were seemingly close to an agreement to sign 22-year-old talent Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, but eventually pursued a deal to sign Viktor Gtokeres from Sporting CP instead, with talks still ongoing.
With the Slovenian’s potential move to Arsenal seemingly dead in the water, it has now been reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Šeško is being mentioned “internally” by those at United as an option later this summer.
Romano explained on his YouTube channel that although signing a striker is a high priority for Amorim’s side, who they can secure depends on how much money they can raise through sales.
In terms of singing Šeško, Leipzig’s demands are reportedly as high as £70-80 million, although is has been suggested elsewhere that this may drop as the window heads into August, although United will need to sell several players to fund the move.
United still have Jadon Sancho and Antony to sell, with both players keen on heading to Juventus and Real Betis, respectively. Still, Romano has highlighted Alejandro Garnacho’s sale as a “really important” transfer move that can turn the tide concerning Šeško.
What is the latest with Garnacho’s future?
When Garnacho netted United’s opening goal in their fantastic 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May 2024, it was unthinkable that the young winger would be leaving the club just 12 months later.
However, with the shock of Garnacho’s pending departure having settled and the 21-year-old’s exit now unanimously accepted, the player has made it clear that he wants to remain in the Premier League.
It has been widely reported that Garnacho would prefer to move to a London club. Romano mentions in his latest video that Chelsea have a long-standing interest in the United player and could yet make a move after selling Noni Madueke to Arsenal.
However, it has also been strongly suggested that Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the player’s situation, with Villa boss Unai Emery known to be a fan of Garnacho.
While United have not yet received any bids and are looking to secure around £60-70 million for the Puskas winner, with clubs now back in pre-season and the transfer window heating up, it feels only a matter of time before interest in Garnacho starts to peak.
