Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United as the four potential replacements are explained.

Manchester United are currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, with recent poor performances intensifying calls for Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

Out of their last six games, United have managed just two wins—a commanding 7-0 victory over Barnsley in League One and a 3-0 triumph over Southampton, where André Onana’s crucial penalty save proved decisive in keeping the scoreline in United’s favour.

Draws against FC Twente and FC Porto, coupled with back-to-back 3-0 home defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham, have cast significant doubt on Ten Hag’s ability to lead the club.

However, a recent draw with Aston Villa has given him a slight reprieve, although many remain unconvinced.

Latest from Fabrizio Romano

While many are waiting to see if Ten Hag will remain in charge of United, Fabrizio Romano has explained that the Dutch manager has received no indication that he may be out of a job soon.

“Erik ten Hag has not received any formal communication from INEOS,” Romano said on his YouTube channel

“So, while I’m recording this video, no communications from the owners, no communications from the management. Erik ten Hag keeps working on preparing the squad for the next games in the Premier League and Europe.

“So, full focus on the pitch, full focus on the tactical plan, and full focus on recovering some players. The injury of Garnacho, the injury of Harry Maguire, Mazraoui will also be out. So Man United are fully focused on the pitch in terms of coaching staff, in terms of Erik ten Hag.”

Four potential replacements

However, this has not stopped rumours about who may replace Ten Hag. Various reports indicate that there are four leading candidates to take over from him should INEOS choose to fire the Dutch boss.

The first is a short-term replacement. Ruud van Nistelrooy, the current assistant coach under Ten Hag, has reportedly been touted as an option to fill in the gap for him should he leave.

The second is Thomas Tuchel. Currently in negotiations to take over the England national team, the German manager is widely reported to be among Ratcliffe’s preferred options should the side need a replacement.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is another name that United have added to their wishlist.

Terzic unexpectedly left Dortmund earlier this year after he guided the club to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by La Liga giants Real Madrid in a 2-0 fixture at Wembley Stadium.

Finally, there have also been reports that the club are monitoring Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim. Amorim is making waves across European football as his Portuguese side continue to dominate on the continent.
