Fabrizio Romano delivers Benjamin Šeško ‘decision’ update, Man Utd will avoid two Bryan Mbeumo transfer errors

Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on when Benjamin Šeško will decide on his future amid interest from Manchester United.

Manchester United are shifting their focus to the final three signings of the summer as Rúben Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford.

The club have already completed deals for Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo. Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to form two-thirds of a new-look attacking trio, while 18-year-old Leon will operate as understudy to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu at left wing-back.

With five weeks remaining in the transfer window, United are targeting an experienced centre-forward, a defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper to compete with André Onana.

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško has been identified as their preferred option to lead the line. Although the club may still explore player sales, including the possible departure of Alejandro Garnacho, reports suggest United do not need to sell to fund a move for Šeško.

Šeško decision to be made in the coming days

It has been widely reported that United have initiated formal talks with Šeško’s entourage regarding the potential conditions of a deal, with Sky Sports reporting that the German club want in excess of £70 million, although the terms are favourable.

With Newcastle also said to be interested in the Slovenian international, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed when Šeško will make his final decision on which project he would like to join this summer.

“We have to see what Šeško decides to do,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel. “It [his decision] is not going to be today. And from what I heard, it’s not going to be also tomorrow. It’s going to take some days before Šeško says, OK, this is the project I want, I’ve decided.

“Not too many days. I don’t expect a very long saga. But in the next days, Benjamin Šeško will meet this family with his agent, consider all the elements of this project, and then decide. With Manchester United really trying, and with Newcastle ready [to submit an offer].”

United likely to avoid two Mbeumo errors

The word “saga” may evoke an involuntary reaction among those following United, given that the move for Mbeumo took over six weeks and caused havoc across an impatient fan base.

However, with Šeško’s decision likely to be announced in the next few days and Leipzig seemingly open to cooperation in facilitating a deal, it feels as if the club will be able to avoid another lengthy saga.

Similarly, United are also facing a secondary issue with Mbeumo, as he is not featuring across United’s first three pre-season fixtures due to a lack of match fitness. Brentford did not allow the 25-year-old to train with his former teammates while the transfer was being negotiated, meaning he is a few weeks behind at the club.

However, Šeško has been with his Leipzig squad since the opening day of pre-season, preparing to get completely match fit ahead of the new season.

If he were to sign, it’s unlikely Amorim would throw him in from the start, but his ability to train across July and heading into August will go a long way to helping him settle in well at Old Trafford.
