Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United duo to leave this summer, Rúben Amorim already has their replacements

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that two Manchester United players will leave Rúben Amorim’s squad after the 2024/25 campaign.

Manchester United are set to begin a major squad overhaul this summer as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s first transfer window. The club plan to generate income through player sales, clearing out those who don’t fit the new manager’s system.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both expected to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season. Neither are part of the club’s future plans under Amorim.

United will also look to sell several players currently out on loan. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all likely to be made available, with none expected to be reintegrated into the squad.

Casemiro is another player possibly heading for the exit, as the club shifts towards a younger, more dynamic profile better suited to Amorim’s tactical approach, while his current wage is a significant drain on the club’s resources.

Romano confirms United duo are to leave

With United aiming to create a more youthful squad, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now explained that the plan for two United players to leave this summer has been “confirmed”.

Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are two of United’s most experienced players, with the pair both playing over 300 English league fixtures each across their careers.

Although he was brought in as a reserve option under Erik ten Hag, Evans has actually played 42 fixtures for United over the last two seasons, but Romano has explained that both he and Heaton will leave the club once their respective contracts expire at the end of June.

There have been rumours that both players will retire from the professional game once the season comes to an end, with both players having already started undertaking courses to complete their coaching badges.

Amorim already has their replacements

With Evans and Heaton leaving, there has been much talk surrounding United signing a new centre-back and goalkeeper this summer—although this is not related to the duo’s departures but rather poor form from others.

However, with respect to replacing both players, it feels as if Amorim already has their ready-made replacements at United. Evans is known to be a wise and experienced player who brings unparalleled value to United’s younger stars.

But with the Northern Irish defender departing, this role is now set to fall to Harry Maguire. It has been claimed he has been “invaluable” in the rise of Harry Amass of late, with Amorim choosing to extend the 32-year-old’s contract by a further season earlier this year.

With respect to replacing Heaton, this responsibility is likely to fall onto the shoulders of the Academy. Dermott Mee and Elyh Harrison have both been involved in Amorim’s squads across the last two months.

With rumours flying about signing a replacement for André Onana this summer, the job of United’s third-choice goalkeeper may well fall to one of these two instead.
