Fabrizio Romano confirms club departure, Man United could swoop in for smart transfer
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed one departure in Europe, and Manchester United could swoop in to make a smart move this summer.
The Reds have secured two signings so far this summer after Joshua Zirkzee was announced as the first signing last week.
Leny Yoro is expected to become a United player before the end of the week after taking the first part of his medical on Wednesday.
Those two players have addressed the priority positions identified by INEOS – striker and centre-back – and now it seems that they will move their attention to potential midfield signings.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Thursday morning that Adrien Rabiot would not renew his contract at Juventus and that the midfielder is already in conversations with other clubs.
It has since been announced by the Italian side that the Frenchman will not continue at the Allianz Stadium.
Once again, there have been links to United, and it is clear that there are people at Old Trafford who admire Rabiot.
With the Reds in need of midfield signings, it could be smart for INEOS to explore a deal for the 29-year-old this summer. His potential wage packet is the main sticking point for a potential deal.
But with potential exits for Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, just a single midfield signing would likely not be enough for the depth in the squad.
Instead, if United can convince Rabiot – and more importantly, his mother Veronique, who is also his agent – to lower his wages, as they have with Matthijs de Ligt, then it could make sense to strike a deal.
