Fabrizio Romano confirms “brilliant” Man Utd target wants to join after researching Rúben Amorim’s team

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that one of Manchester United’s current transfer targets is interested in joining the club after researching Rúben Amorim’s team.

Manchester United are moving toward their final three summer transfer priorities as Rúben Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford.

The side have brought in Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo so far this summer, with the former and latter making up two-thirds of a new-look front three while 18-year-old Leon is set to act as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu’s understudy at left wing-back.

As for the final five weeks of the window, United are keen to bring in an experienced striker, a new defensive midfielder, and another goalkeeper to provide genuine competition to André Onana.

However, they must look to sanction the sales of many key players, such as Alejandro Garnacho, to raise funding before new signings can be brought in.

Lammens wants to join United

As for the competition to Onana, there is a choice United have yet to make – the club are still unsure whether they should bring in an experienced shot-stopper, like Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez, or sign a younger player to push Onana and challenge for the spot.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, while United’s enquiry surrounding signing Martínez on loan was rebuffed, the name for the younger goalkeeper option is the “brilliant” Senne Lammens, who is set to be sold by Royal Antwerp this summer.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano also clarified that the 23-year-old himself would be keen on joining the Old Trafford club.

“If they want to go for a young goalkeeper, in that case, Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp remains the name,” Romano stated.

“A player really appreciated by Man United, scouted for a long time, with the player also keen on a move.”

Lammens has been conducting his research

United’s links to Lammens are not new. As Romano stated, the club have been scouting him since Amorim’s arrival, with his name associated with the Old Trafford club since December 2024.

Earlier this year, the Belgian was asked about the links to United, to which he admitted that it’s “special” to hear his name mentioned in the same breath as the club, and that he has conducted research into Amorim’s squad to see if he is a good fit.

“The first time I heard it, I thought: wow, immediately a world team that follows you. That is special. Of course, I was also asked about it a lot, and when I made a save in training,” he told Belgian media back in February.

“Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players. So it doesn’t have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.

“Especially because it is about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. You have to physically hold your own there, and that suits me.

“I do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it’s not like I’m watching full matches. Summaries are enough.”
