Fabrizio Romano drops major Amad injury update as new Manchester United return date revealed

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update on the progress of Amad’s rehabilitation, and it will be music to the ears of Manchester United.

Rúben Amorim’s men are gearing up for a busy period after the international break, with a number of Manchester United players having enjoyed a valuable chance to rest.

Bruno Fernandes, Rasmus Højlund, and Matthijs de Ligt were in action for their countries, but others—such as Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee—stayed behind in Manchester to work on their fitness and recovery.

United resumed full training on Friday morning, although Manuel Ugarte, Noussair Mazraoui, and Victor Lindelöf were not involved after playing for their national teams on Tuesday night.

A demanding run of fixtures now awaits, starting with a trip to Nottingham Forest on 1 April, followed by a Manchester Derby later in the week and a two-legged Europa League quarter-final against Olympique Lyonnais.

Romano drops Amad injury update

While five players returned to Amorim’s training sessions on Friday morning, one player who remains out of action is star forward Amad.

Amad had become an essential cog in United’s system, but he suffered a freak ankle injury in training last month, and initial reports claimed he would be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

However, in a fresh update, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who is known to have a good connection to Amad and his entourage, has issued an update that will be music to the club’s ears.

Romano explained on X that Amad is “progressing well” following his injury and is currently ahead of his initial schedule.

Further, Romano revealed that although the club staff are being cautious and are not taking any uncesscesary risks, there is a “real chance” that the player will return before the campaign ends.

Finally, the journalist explained that it’s now expected that Amad will return at some point in May rather than after the season ends.

Amorim finally building competition for places

After having to endure a rather shocking injury crisis across the last two months, Amorim is finally starting to build competition for places at the club.

With those such as Leny Yoro, Mason Mount, and Altay Bayındır returning to duty, the head coach will be able to rotate players across the two games a week and start to build a sense of competition within the dressing room, which will heighten motivation to perform.

At centre-back, Amorim now has Harry Maguire, Yoro, De Ligt, Victor Lindelöf, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw, and possibly Ayden Heaven all competing for the spaces.

In attack, the return of Mount and possible reintroduction of Amad in May means Joshua Zirkzee, Højlund, and Alejandro Garnacho also have competition across the front three spaces.
