Expert says Michael Carrick has exposed ‘ridiculous’ error at Manchester United in just four games

An expert has claimed that Michael Carrick has exposed a ‘ridiculous’ error Ruben Amorim made at Manchester United in just four games.

Manchester United continued their strong form with a 2–0 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford to make it four victories in a row.

The hosts looked sharp from the opening whistle, with Bryan Mbeumo creating an early opening, although Spurs soon settled and began to see more of the ball. United remained disciplined defensively and slowly regained control, before a key incident shifted the balance of the contest.

Cristian Romero was shown a red card for a reckless tackle on Casemiro, leaving Tottenham reduced to ten men. United made the numerical advantage count just moments later, as a smartly worked corner ended with Mbeumo guiding a low finish into the bottom corner to put Michael Carrick’s side ahead at the interval.

The second half followed a familiar pattern, with United dominating possession and Tottenham sitting deep. Two United goals were ruled out for offside before Bruno Fernandes finally added a second.

The captain met a driven cross from Diogo Dalot with a controlled finish into the bottom corner, wrapping up a deserved three points for the hosts.

Carrick has exposed ‘ridiculous’ error at United

Carrick has made some simple decisions since coming in which have paid off. The simplest of them all was probably bringing Kobbie Mainoo back into the team.

Mainoo had not started any of United’s opening 21 Premier League games of the season but has shined in the last four victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Spurs.

The 20-year-old registered an assist in the latest win after a cute flick from a corner routine found Mbeumo, who had time to place his shot.

BBC reporter and United expert Simon Stone made his feelings clear about Ruben Amorim’s previous decision to leave Mainoo out of the side.

On X, the journalist wrote: “With every passing game, Ruben Amorim’s stance on Kobbie Mainoo just looks more ridiculous.”

It is hard to disagree with him considering the form Mainoo is in despite playing a minimal amount of games before Carrick came in.

Mainoo’s World Cup aims are realistic

Mainoo’s performance levels are not too surprising; every fan knew that he was extremely talented. But no one was expecting him to hit the ground running again.

He had been out of favour all season long and it is sometimes difficult for players to come back into the team after such a long period on the bench.

But like he did in his debut season, Mainoo is making it look easy and his aims of reaching the England squad for the World Cup in the summer no longer seem unrealistic.

If he keeps performing as he is now, Mainoo will certainly be in Thomas Tuchel’s thoughts and he will continue to help United win games.
