A source close to the player’s camp has told UtdDistrict that Manchester United do not have a buy-back clause in the deal that saw youngster Zidane Iqbal move on a permanent transfer for a fee rumoured to be up to £850,000 to FC Utrecht.

Zidane Iqbal‘s permanent move from Manchester United to FC Utrecht took many by surprise, with the talented midfielder making his full debut under Erik ten Hag last season.

Although there is a lack of quality depth in the current United midfield, the club felt that Iqbal was not quite physically ready for the Premier League, and feel that his sale is a “no lose situation”.

Iqbal signed a four-year contract with the Dutch club on Monday.

Despite reports of the contrary, a source close to the situation has explained to UtdDistrict that there is no buy-back agreement between Manchester United and FC Utrecht with regard to his permanent transfer away from the English club.

The source further confirmed that there is, however, a 40% sell-on clause, should FC Utrecht decide to sell the player in the future.

When contacted, sources close to Manchester United reiterated to UtdDistrict that there is a buy-back clause in their agreement with FC Utrecht, although they did not state the specific amount of money that this buy-back clause would be.

The club further confirmed that they will continue to monitor Iqbal’s progress and career closely and consider the Eredivisie as an ideal league for the player’s long-term development.
