Exclusive: Paul Parker explains ‘underrated’ Senne Lammens impact that solves Man Utd’s biggest off-field problem

An exclusive interview with Paul Parker has revealed how the ex-Manchester United defender feels about the new goalkeeper signing, Senne Lammens.

Former Manchester United right-back Paul Parker has shared his views on the current United squad, and more specifically, Belgian International Senne Lammens.

UtdDistrict asked the two-time Premier League winner his thoughts on whether Lammens is an underrated player in Ruben Amorim’s starting 11.

Rúben Amorim signed the goalkeeper on a five-year contract at the start of September this year. Since then, the keeper has found himself a recurring name in Amorim’s starting lineup.

Many fans and pundits were happy to see a change in the number one position, with Utd’s other goalies, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, under constant scrutiny for their inconsistent performances for the club.

“A lot of people aren’t talking about Lammens…”

When asking Parker whether Lammens has been underrated by football watchers this season, he was incredibly positive regarding the impact the 23-year-old has made so far on the team, going so far as to say that the fact he may be an underrated player is a positive.

“He has been, and that’s very good. I made a point with Onana, but a lot of people aren’t talking about Lammens; that tells you how well he’s doing,” Parker told UtdDistrict.

“If he wasn’t doing well, everyone would be jumping on him straight away.”

Parker’s statement reflects United’s situation with goalkeepers immaculately, with the idea that it’s a good thing there hasn’t been a bright light shone on Lammens.

In the past, the intense scrutiny of United’s goalkeeping situation was Amorim’s biggest off-field problem, but the underrated nature of Lammens has allowed him to make substantial changes to United’s setup, a significant factor in United’s unbeaten run across their last five fixtures.

With analysts noting a visible improvement in United’s back line’s confidence with Lammens in goal, it is almost no secret that the player is incredibly underrated for what he has done for the squad.

Lammens has been a success so far

Parker concluded his argument, stating that, “If he [Lammens] wasn’t doing well, everyone would be jumping on him straight away. Again, to take more pressure off of Liverpool.”

Once again, the pressure that has been put on previous United keepers is not going unnoticed by people who follow the club.

Onana was a name who was constantly in the forefront of people’s criticism for the club, as he continuously underperformed.

This then marks a positive shift for Lammens, although arguably not getting the same deserved recognition as other players within the team, the lack of criticism speaks volumes about how people feel regarding the young goalie. Parker’s statement is seemingly true.
