Exclusive: Manchester United told they must dump £80m duo despite “really difficult” Rúben Amorim transfer problem

Manchester United have been told they must dump an £80 million duo this summer despite Rúben Amorim’s “really difficult” transfer problem.

Manchester United are set to begin a major squad rebuild this summer as they aim to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s first transfer window in charge. The club are expected to move on several players who no longer align with the new manager’s tactical vision.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both out of contract at the end of the season and are expected to depart. Neither are in line for renewals as United look to refresh key areas of the squad.

Players currently out on loan are also likely to be sold. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to be made available, with Amorim not viewing them as part of his long-term plans.

Casemiro is another player possibly heading for the exit, as the club shifts towards a younger, more dynamic profile better suited to Amorim’s tactical approach, while his current wage is a significant drain on the club’s resources.

United told to dump duo despite Amorim transfer problem

United’s focus on sales will no doubt see the club hopefully raise upward of £100 million this summer, although it remains to be seen which clubs will be willing to enter negotiations for their outcast players.

Speaking exclusively to UtdDistrict, former Arsenal striker and famed Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith has discussed which players United must focus on getting off the books, naming on-loan duo Antony and Rashford as a pair who must be sold.

However, he also warned the club that it may be “really difficult” for Amorim and those in charge at United to offload both players this summer, and that the head coach might need to get “quite creative” to make sure the club can achieve their summer goals.

“The two lads who have gone on loan, Antony and Rashford, will they both come back? I’m guessing Rashford will come back to United,” Smith told UtdDistrict.

“Antony, I don’t know. He’s obviously enjoying his time at Betis. It’s a really difficult job getting players out. Finding somewhere else on the same wages is difficult for these players, particularly Rashford. Rumours are saying United won’t have a lot of money to spend, aren’t they?

“That would increase the need to get some players out and free up some space, and generate some money. I think it’s going to be a really difficult transfer window for Rúben Amorim. He’s got to be a little lucky in terms of getting players out the door. He’s going to need to be quite creative, I think.”

How much could United earn from selling Antony and Rashford

When United sent Antony on loan to Real Betis in January, many would have said the club would be lucky to generate even £20 million for selling him this summer. However, the Brazilian has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most exciting players in La Liga.

Antony has six goals and four assists in 19 appearances for the Spanish side and has become a firm fan favourite at the club. As a result, United are reportedly demanding around £35-40 million for the player this summer amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Rashford’s loan at Aston Villa contains an option to buy the player for around £40 million. Although the Birmingham club are big fans of the winger, there is no certainty that they will choose to activate the clause.

However, Rashford is set not to be short of suitors, and there is hope at United that they will still be able to secure as much as £40 million or more for him. The player reportedly would like to join La Liga side Barcelona this summer.
