Mason Mount and Amad have relayed the same message after Manchester United brought in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as new signings.
Manchester United have so far announced three new first-team signings as Rúben Amorim prepares for his first full season as head coach at Old Trafford.
On the opening day of the transfer window, United announced that they had agreed a £62.5 million deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the transfer being completed around two weeks later.
They then secured the signing of 18-year-old Diego Leon from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno, with the £2.3 million transfer having been initially agreed earlier this year and completed in June.
Then, after a drawn-out set of talks with Brentford, the club landed star winger Bryan Mbeumo for an initial £65 million fee plus a further £6 million in add-ons just in time to fly to the United States on the club’s pre-season tour.
Mount addresses the signings Mbeumo and Cunha
While the two new attacking signings are no doubt upgrades, they also spell trouble for some of those currently at Old Trafford. Mason Mount hit good form toward the back end of last season, but Cunha is now set to start in Mount’s favoured left-forward position.
Speaking with journalists in the United States at the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago, Mount retained confidence that he can show his true self despite the new signings. However, he also admitted that they bring much-needed quality.
“Yeah, 100 per cent,” Mount said, via The Athletic. “I’ll always back myself. I know what I can do. But we’re a team, and we’re all working together in that. Obviously, with the new signings coming in, they’re going to elevate us to another level — and we all need to be at that level to really perform.
“What they’ve done in the Premier League already, the amount of goals they’ve scored, the amount of assists they’ve created, that’s exactly what we need in the team. We’re working together to try and improve that because last season we didn’t hit those goals or assists as much as we could have done.”
Amad shares Mount’s enthusiasm
Another player whose position has been called into question is star attacker Amad, who has thrived in the right-forward position, where Mbeumo is now expected to play.
It has been theorised that, despite Mbeumo taking Amad’s spot, the pair can thrive on the pitch together, with Amad playing as a very attacking wing-back who can complement Mbeumo’s runs.
Amad was recently questioned on the pair, and he echoed Mount’s answer that, overall, it is good to have two new players of such high quality at the club.
“Of course I’m looking forward to playing with him,” Amad said when asked about Mbeumo last week. “We need good players in the team who can bring something to the final third.
“We are really excited to have them [Mbeumo and Cunha] in the team, and I hope that together we can give something to the fans at the end of the season because they deserve it.”
