Ex-Real Madrid hero is “extremely” worried that no one has signed castaway Manchester United man

A former Real Madrid player has expressed anger at how football clubs across Europe have failed to secure the services of former Manchester United midfielder and free agent Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen spent three years at Manchester United, bringing experience and composure to the midfield before his contract expired on June 30th, at which point he left the club.

The Denmark international is now a free agent and has yet to find a new team after the club opted not to hand him an extension.

Eriksen had already confirmed in March that he would be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season. Since then, he’s been linked with several clubs, as teams look to add his quality and experience on a free transfer.

Odense Boldklub, his boyhood club, have expressed interest in bringing him back. Their sporting director, Troels Bech, confirmed that talks had taken place with the midfielder. Towards the end of June, reports from Spain also suggested that La Liga side Mallorca had made contact with Eriksen about a potential move.

However, nearly a month has passed since his official exit from United, and there’s still no agreement in place. Former Denmark midfielder Thomas Gravesen has voiced concern over the situation, saying it’s worrying that Eriksen remains without a club as the new season approaches.

Gravesen claims “it is too early” for Eriksen to retire

Speaking to Viaplay, Graveson went on to rant heavily about the surprising fact that clubs hadn’t made contact with the current free agent.

“I am extremely worried. What is a huge factor for me is that nothing is coming from Christian Eriksen,” he said.

“A player of his age and with his qualities…where are those clubs? Why hasn’t he signed with a club yet? We all know how extremely important it is to be in shape… Why isn’t Christian Eriksen in it, why isn’t he participating on a level with the other players? Has he lost his joy? I am extremely worried.”

For me, it is too early when it comes to Christian Eriksen,” Gravesen explained.

Eriksen had a mixed time at United

Eriksen joined United in 2022 and made a strong start. He brought calmness and quality on the ball and picked up a few early assists, quickly becoming a regular in midfield.

However, as the season progressed, he struggled with the pace of the games and suffered an injury. He finished with two goals and 10 assists in his first year, but never quite hit top form again after returning.

In his second season, he played a lot less. Younger players and new signings pushed him out of the starting team, and he mostly came off the bench.

Still, he had his moments, especially in the Europa League, where he stepped up in some big games. And he ended on a high, scoring in the final league match of the season, a fitting farewell for a classy, experienced player.
