Aston Villa have been warned against signing one Manchester United star this summer as he is too far away from being a finished product.
Manchester United are now concentrating on player departures as Rúben Amorim looks to overhaul his squad at Old Trafford this summer.
They’ve already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal and are pushing to land Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, though their £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons offer has been rejected as negotiations continue.
United are targeting reinforcements in both attack and midfield, and could also enter the market for a new goalkeeper if André Onana leaves.
While some exits are already confirmed with contracts set to expire this month, several more players are expected to leave in the coming weeks.
Villa urged to stay away from Garnacho
In recent weeks, reports have emerged that Aston Villa are weighing up a proposal for Alejandro Garnacho as Unai Emery continues to build on his ambitious project in Birmingham.
However, ex-Villa and Manchester City centre-back Richard Dunne has urged his former side to avoid Garnacho as he is too far from the finished product, with Villa needing a winger with a better end product.
“Alejandro Garnacho should really be the poster boy for Manchester United moving forward, but sometimes players need to let their football do the talking by producing top-level performances week in, week out, instead of going on social media and talking so much,” Dunne explained to William Hill.
“Garnacho is probably one of the players who has been a victim of the indiscipline that has crept in at United, where players seem to think they can say and do whatever they want.
“I do think he will come good, but I don’t think he’s the answer for Aston Villa right now. He needs to be producing a lot more than he is currently to be worth signing for Villa.
“Potentially, he’s got the ability, of course, but he doesn’t score or assist enough, so he’s far from the finished article. However, if he does go to Villa Park and Unai Emery can get hold of him and teach him a few things, then there certainly could be a very good player there.”
Villa would face too much competition for Garnacho this summer
It is all well and good for Dunne to advise his old club not to try to sign Garnacho, but the fact of the matter is that, even if they wanted him, there is little guarantee that they would be able to secure the Argentina international.
The player whom United hope to fetch as much as £60 million for this summer is of interest to several clubs, with Napoli thought to be the most interested in his signature.

However, Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old since January, but might pass up on the young star in favour of signing ex-Man City Academy star Jamie Gittens, 20, from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
With United looking to offload Garnacho, former manager Erik ten Hag, now in charge at Bayer Leverkusen following Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid, has also expressed an interest. However, they are also reportedly monitoring a potential move for Antony instead.
Atletico Madrid are another side who have been linked with Garnacho, with the player potentially heading back to the city of his birth if Diego Simeone’s club choose to pursue the winger.
