One ex-Manchester United star has revealed a training ground conversation with Ruben Amorim which convinced him of a “bright future” at Old Trafford.
Manchester United decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag earlier on in the season and swapped him with Ruben Amorim, the Sporting boss who was storming the Champions League.
Initially reluctant to step into the chaos at Old Trafford mid-season, the Portuguese manager eventually agreed to the move after being told it was a now-or-never opportunity.
Five months later and Amorim’s early skepticism has proven valid, as United have continued to struggle under his leadership and he will be waiting until the summer to prepare for his first full season in charge.
Despite the difficulties, there have been signs of positivity for the future and, with changes made in the transfer window, many will hope to see major improvements next term.
Ex-United star reveals conversation with Amorim
United’s last chance of success this season comes in the Europa League as they prepare for their semi-final clash against Athletic Club.
The Reds remain unbeaten in the competition and Amorim has been able to see some good signs in the lower-paced games compared to the Premier League.
In the second-leg against Lyon, there were positives, negatives and all those in between when Amorim’s side produced a shocking 5-4 win, with three goals in the final 10 minutes of extra-time, to knock the French side out of Europe.
After that game, Amorim spoke with ex-United defender David May about that match, saying that he had never felt such an atmosphere.
May believes that things will improve under Amorim next season, and has confidence in the head coach to provide a “bright future” for the club.
“It was a brilliant game, it really was, and the way they finished it,” May said while speaking on MUTV earlier this week.
“I spoke to the manager earlier on just off camera and he said he’s never felt anything like that.
“The place was absolutely bouncing and you know if we can get more nights like that, and I’m sure the manager will bring that in over the next 12 to 18 months.
“Bringing new players in, getting players to leave and you know, I think the future is really, really bright for the club.”
Amorim has many backing him to succeed
Things can change quickly in football and that is exactly what United need right now.
Despite how terrible things have been this season, it is easy to forget that Amorim hasn’t even been here for an entire year and is yet to have a summer transfer window.

There have definitely been some red flags that the Portuguese boss will need to address. The form this season, even with context, is simply not good enough.
With signings and time over the summer, things can hopefully swing in Amorim’s favour after such a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, and there are many backing him to succeed.
