Every word of explosive Rúben Amorim rant after Leeds draw as ‘promises broken’ claim made

Ruben Amorim exploded in his post-match press conference after the game against Leeds United. The clash ended in a 1-1 draw, despite the result not being all doom and gloom for Amorim, the United boss chose to let loose in the press room.

On the whole, Manchester United managed to cope pretty well with the trip down to a hostile Elland Road; despite missing eight first-team players, they seemed to be the better side overall.

The Red Devils had more possession, more shots, more expected goals and created more big chances. Some key chances were squandered, one most notably being Benjamin Sesko’s inability to divert a Joshua Zirkzee cross on target, not long after Matheus Cunha’s equaliser.

Cunha was another big positive to take from the game. He started the game brilliantly with an emphatic strike that was ruled out for offside. He became the talisman of the team in the absence of Bruno Fernandes, scoring and winning the Man of the Match award.

After all of the disappointing results as of late, such as the last game against Wolves, this performance from Amorim’s men was a pretty solid effort, certainly far from the worst we’ve seen. However, the boss was still questioned on his future at the club, thus sparking much aggravation from him.

Amorim furious with the media

During the press conference, Ruben Amorim was asked if his relationship with the board had changed or if he still felt he had the full backing of them.

“Guys, stop with that, and I noticed that you receive selective information about everything. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. And that is clear.

“I know that my name is not Tuchel, it’s not Conte, it’s not Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United. And it’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decided to change. So that was my point. I want to finish with that. I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until other guy is coming here to replace me.

“I just want to say that I’m going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. And I was really clear on that. And that is going to finish in 18 months. And then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal. That is my job, not to be a coach. If people cannot handle the Gary Neville’s and the criticism of everything, we need to change the club.

“I just want to say that I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach. And every department, the scouting department, the sports director needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.”

Furthermore, according to Alex Crook via X, Amorim also feels that “promises have been broken”, regarding him being backed by the board in the January transfer window, sparking further drama and turmoil around the situation.

What could this mean for Amorim?

January could be Ruben Amorim’s most important month as manager of Manchester United since his first game in charge.

The transfer window is open, and while Amorim is still uncertain if he will be given reinforcements from the board, players like Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte are heavily linked with moves away from the club.

United already suffer from a lack of options currently, therefore losing two more without replacements could severely damage their hopes of finishing in the top four and maybe cost Amorim his job.

A trip to Burnley that has to be looked at as a must-win, followed by United’s first FA Cup match of the season against Brighton. With United crashing out early in the League Cup to Grimsby, they cannot afford to fall at the first hurdle of another cup competition, making that fixture yet another must-win.

Manchester United then face Man City in the derby, followed by an away fixture against League leaders Arsenal, making it very difficult to see United picking up any points in the back end of the month. He’s had a lot of tests so far as manager, and this month is certainly going to be a pivotal one.
