Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Manchester United’s potential summer pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

One of Manchester United’s biggest issues in recent seasons has been the lack of a consistent goal threat.

Marcus Rashford has been the only player to deliver with any regularity, netting 30 goals in the 2022/23 campaign. However, with the England international set to depart following his loan spell at Aston Villa, serious doubts remain over the strength of United’s attacking options.

Rasmus Højlund has shown promise but appears too inexperienced to be the club’s primary striker, while Joshua Zirkzee seems to perform better when playing behind a traditional No. 9.

With the club already exploring potential signings, reports suggest that Victor Osimhen is one of their top targets for the summer transfer window.

Osimhen, currently on loan from Napoli at Turkish side Galatasaray, has been among Europe’s top strikers for several years.

This season, he has registered 20 goals and five assists in 26 appearances, adding to his impressive three-year stint in Italy, where he scored 66 goals for Napoli.

Fabrizio Romano revealed this week that the Nigerian striker would be willing to speak to United about a potential summer move.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Italian journalist said: “He’s open to hearing from Man United, as well as more clubs for sure.

“But again, it’s not something being decided now in February with Man United as it will depend on the budget. For Osimhen, respecting his current salary conditions at Napoli is a key point.”

Osimhen refuses to speak about United transfer rumours

It would be a major coup if United were able to secure the signing of Osimhen in the summer window but it appears that the striker is still extremely focused on his current club.

Galatasaray are currently leading the Turkish Super Lig by six points and planning to win the competition for the third consecutive season.

Osimhen is enjoying his time in Turkey and refused to speak about transfer rumours with United when asked in an interview this week.

“To be honest I don’t know. You know the last few months, nobody ever thought I would come here, I never believed I would come to Galatasaray despite how big they are,” Osimhen said.

“I live for the moment. I don’t know what will happen in the summer, but I want everybody to understand that I really love this club.

“I love the fans, I love the President, I love everyone associated with the club. It’s really a big deal to be here and I’m really enjoying my time here.”
