Diogo Dalot has revealed that two players were ‘big headaches’ for Manchester United last season but that will not be the case in 2025/26.
Manchester United struggled last season and Ruben Amorim’s squad are desperate for major improvements heading into the new campaign.
With pre-season already underway, the Reds drew 0-0 with Leeds in their opening friendly and then won 2-1 against West Ham in their first Premier League Summer Series clash.
Matheus Cunha has played both of those games after signing for the club from Wolves earlier this summer, and Bryan Mbeumo is yet to appear after his move from Brentford.
Both are expected to give United a lot more quality in attack after proving that they can score in the Premier League over recent seasons.
When playing against the Reds last term, Mbeumo and Cunha impressed for their respective teams and that was something the United squad recognised.
Dalot reveals two players were ‘big headaches’ for United last season
Diogo Dalot has been speaking about the new signings in a new interview with CBS Sports Golazo and he described them as ‘big headaches’ when United faced Brentford and Wolves last term.
Cunha scored and assisted in one game against United and then provided a Man of the Match display in the reverse fixture. Mbeumo provided a wonderful assist in Brentford’s 4-3 win over Amorim’s side.
“I’m very happy that they [Cunha and Mbeumo] are on our side now because every time we went to play against them, they always gave us big headaches,” explained Dalot.
“They don’t need to prove anything in terms of trying to adapt to the country. They know the league well. They just have to come to a big club. They are two big characters, humble people. They have adapted really well.
“Now they just need to adapt to the manager, what he asks them to do, and for us to create connections, dynamics on the pitch so we can be even better.”
United’s squad happy with Mbeumo and Cunha signings
Fans are pleased that Mbeumo and Cunha both have Premier League experience but it is also important to note how the United squad feel about this too.
After a poor campaign, the Reds need to improve and the players will know that they are welcoming two very good players to their squad.
These players do not need bedding in periods or for other players to help them through difficulties at the start like so many recent signings have needed.
United’s squad will feel confident that the attacking pair will address some problems within the team but there are also plenty of players who need to improve their own levels as well.
