Manchester United fans will see a host of new players with new numbers this season amid confirmation of Senne Lammens’ jersey number.
Manchester United finalised their 2025 summer business with the £18 million addition of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, tipped as one of the brightest young keepers in Europe.
The club’s spending totals around £215 million upfront, potentially rising past £240 million if all bonus clauses are met.
Lammens joins a group of new arrivals that includes forwards Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, while 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon came in earlier in July.
On the exit front, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony were among those to depart, with Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million move to Chelsea the most notable sale.
Eight first-team squad number changes
With United’s five new signings through the door, this also means that there are five new players with fresh shirt numbers at Old Trafford.
Cunha has been handed the club’s No. 10 shirt, while Mbeumo is donning the No. 19 kit. New striker Šeško has been holding the No. 30 on his back, with all three players keeping the numbers they wore at their previous clubs.
United’s young left-back signing Leon initially had the No. 30 shirt when he arrived in July, but switched to the No. 35 after Šeško’s arrival, while United have confirmed that Lammens will have the No. 31 for his debut season.
As for those already in the squad, three have made changes. Diogo Dalot is United’s new No. 2, while fringe players Chido Obi and Tyler Fredricsion have been upgraded to the No. 32 and No. 33 kits, respectively.
Academy quartet also handed number upgrades
While Fredricson and Obi are now considered part of the first-team squad after making their debuts last season, four other Academy stars have also been handed upgrades to recognise their talent and first-team potential.
Shea Lacey has moved from No. 72 to No. 61, Bendito Mantato has been handed the No. 75 after holding the No. 80 last season, and Reece Munro switched from No. 79 to No. 65.
Also, although unconfirmed by United, it seems as if 14-year-old JJ Gabriel, who is widely seen as United’s most talented player across their Academy sides, has been given the No. 95 shirt amid the expectation that he will start training with the first team soon.
Should United confirm Gabriel’s 95 shirt at some point this season, this would break the club’s record of the highest-ever shirt number given to a player, as well as Gabriel becoming one of the youngest ever players to train with United’s first team.
