Anthony Martial, despite his limited minutes this season, has made a big impact on Erik ten Hag’s squad when he has played this season.

Martial has suffered three separate injuries this season, but has still grabbed himself five goals and two assists so far this season in just 10 games – with the latest coming against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

With Manchester United short on firepower after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November, Martial will certainly have to step up to the plate and become a more consistent goal threat, regardless of if the club bring in another striker in January or not.

When questioned on his January intentions ahead of the Bournemouth clash, Erik ten Hag said he does not want to be “burning money” just to secure a striker this window.

“I think we have a good team when all the players are available. But with many games coming up, I think there is a need (for a striker),” said Ten Hag. “But you need one who can have an impact, otherwise you are just burning money and you don’t strengthen the squad and it doesn’t help you.”

Although the need for another attacker is widely recognised, the fact that Erik ten Hag does not feel the need to splash the cash to get someone in shows that he does have faith in the French striker.

When questioned on Martial, the Dutchman was full of praise for his abilities.

“I’m really happy with his performances across many games,” Ten Hag said. “He has a really good impact on our game. It’s really enjoyable to work with him. If you see the minutes he’s played and the impact he’s had so far, I think that’s really huge.

“But he’s not used to coming on every third day,” he continued. “He didn’t play for a long time and probably Wolves wasn’t his game. You can see what a real impact he can have and in the next game, I expect a better performance from him.

“I think he will do it, I’m really convinced of that.”
