“That’s clear…” – Erik ten Hag sends transfer hint towards new Man United priority signing
Erik ten Hag has hinted at a new potential priority signing for Manchester United during this summer transfer window.
So far this summer, the Reds have made two signings: Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. Both address key areas that Ten Hag’s squad needed strengthening.
Reports had earlier suggested that another midfielder and centre-back were the next priorities for INEOS, but it has quickly become apparent that additions are needed at left-back.
Despite the excessive problems in the position last term, it would have been hoped that Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw would return to fitness over the summer, and a third option in Harry Amass could be integrated into the squad.
Instead, Malacia has once again missed the club’s pre-season tour, and Shaw is recovering from England duty on holiday. Amass cannot be in a position to be expected to start if one injury occurs.
There have been several left-backs linked to the club in recent weeks, including Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, and it appears to be a ‘clear’ priority for Ten Hag this summer.
Asked whether it’s a position that could be strengthened in the transfer market, Ten Hag admitted: “We are looking at all the positions to reinforce, but yeah, we need a plan in our squad to reassure ourselves that we are always occupied in that position; that’s clear.”
It seems like it could also be the case that changes are made on the opposite defensive flank despite there being no real trouble there last term.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is entering the final year of his United contract, has been linked with an exit this summer. Inter Milan and West Ham are two of the clubs with reported interest.
Should the former Crystal Palace defender leave the club, United would be in a good position to pick up a replacement, with Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui keen to join the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the fullback has given total priority to United, and an agreement on personal terms would not be a problem.
It remains to be seen how United will act in the transfer market in terms of fullbacks. The window remains open until August 30.
