Erik ten Hag told ‘surprise’ solution to Man United dressing room problem, INEOS are expected to move

Manchester United could fix one of the main problems in Erik ten Hag’s dressing room with a ‘surprise’ solution.

The Reds are making impressive steps so far this summer with the signings of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, but more moves are also expected.

Sales will also be important, with experienced midfielder Casemiro one that could leave this summer. Raphaël Varane has already departed on a free contract.

This could perhaps make one issue even more prominent. Wayne Rooney previously cited the lack of leadership in the dressing room as a concern.

Speaking at the end of last season, the United legend said: “One thing I would say with Manchester United now is, I look at the team and you’re still asking questions about who the leader is. I know Bruno is the captain, but who are the leaders there?”

However, United could be set to sign one player who can help address this problem, Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

Speaking on the Dutch defender, former Liverpool and Newcastle player Dietmar Hamann has stated that his leadership and reliability could benefit the Reds.

“Matthijs de Ligt came to Bayern Munich, he had a tough start, then he had an injury, but you have to say in the last six months, he was probably the most reliable defender they had when he formed a partnership with Eric Dier,” said Hamann, a former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder.

“It comes as a surprise that Bayern would let De Ligt go and I’m not surprised that somebody is happy to pay that fee. He’s been brilliant and what I like about him, he’s a leader.

“There’s a lot of players linked with Manchester United now, Jarrad Branthwaite being one of them and I think there’s really something happening at Manchester United. I don’t think in one transfer you go back from finishing fifth or sixth or seventh to finish in top four, but I think they might be a lot closer with him [De Ligt] in the side.

“I think he could be a player to help him because he is a leader. I think he makes other players better. He’s very reliable. He’s quick. He’s powerful. He’s strong and a very physical player. I’m surprised Bayern are ready to let him go, but I think Manchester United, if they do get him, I think they will get an excellent player.”

Considering Jarrad Branthwaite looks untouchable at Everton this summer unless a monumental bid is made, INEOS look set to make a concrete move for De Ligt once sales are made.
