Erik ten Hag has explained that there is ‘more to come’ from Antony after the Manchester United winger won the Man of the Match award against Reading in the FA Cup.

United were comfortable 3-1 winners on the evening after Casemiro scored a brace and Fred added another. But it was the other Brazilian in the club’s ranks that impressed the most on the night.

Antony was direct all evening and found some smart passes in behind the backline of the Reading defence – including one that found Casemiro to open the scoring on the night.

The £85 million signing has received criticism in recent weeks for his lack of impact. Whilst he is not at his best, the winger is still helping United win matches.

Ten Hag was impressed with the performance of the wide man on the night but suggests that he can become even more threatening if he continues to improve.

“I think he is growing,” the United manager told ITV. “We want him to also be more dynamic, more variable and more direct. You see today it was a lovely pass for the first goal – some Brazilian combination with Antony and Casemiro.

“We are happy with his improvement at this moment but I think there is more to come and I think he is capable of it. There is a big potential in him and he has to develop it every day.”

Ten Hag was happy with the performance of the entire team as they progressed into the fifth round of the FA Cup, although was confused about the offside decision which denied Marcus Rashford of making history by scoring in 10 games in a row at Old Trafford.

“First 60 minutes was a really good performance,” he added. “We completely dominated the game – scored a goal [in the first half] and I don’t know why it was disallowed.”
