Erik ten Hag detailed his unique half-time message to his Manchester United players in their 4-1 win against Real Betis at Old Trafford.

Goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst has given United a comfortable lead going into the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash.

However, The Reds went into the break level after Betis scored their first shot on target in the game. They could’ve been behind after David de Gea misplaced a pass in his own third minutes before the interval.

After losing at Anfield in embarrassing fashion, many would assume that Ten Hag would’ve been harsh in his half-time assessment of his players.

However, the manager revealed that he was in fact complimentary of his team for their performance but explained that they had to deal with the lack of conviction in the final third after conceding a sloppy goal.

“That we played well, that we deserved to be 3-0 up,” responded Ten Hag after club media asked him what he told the players at half-time.

“But, we made one mistake and we had to deal with it. Like we had to deal with the big defeat from Sunday.

“In the last couple of days the players came together, so they stick together, not only 11 players but also the bench – the subs today came on and had a huge impact on the game. It showed a really important message.”

The calmness of the manager certainly rubbed off onto his players, who controlled the entire second half and scored three times. Antony’s goal was perhaps the pick of the bunch as he found the top corner with a curling effort.

Speaking to the press about the performance of the Brazilian, Ten Hag added: “In the first-half he could do better to make more actions, be more brave, go more behind, taking players on, more movement, using his speed. The second half performance was much better, he made a great goal, an important goal.”
