Erik ten Hag reveals latest on Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United
Jadon Sancho has been sent on an individual training camp in the Netherlands as Erik ten Hag looks to build the confidence of the winger.
Sancho, 22, started the season well for United, scoring against Liverpool and Leicester City. However, his form tailed off shortly afterwards.
His time in Manchester has been tough since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last year for £73 million. He has scored just eight goals for The Red Devils.
Ten Hag has already turned around the fortunes of several United players, and fans will be hoping the same is coming for the talented wide man. Sancho has been training away from Carrington as he looks to maximise himself mentally and physically.
Ten Hag has revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s trip to Wolves that Sancho has returned to England.
“[He is] back in Manchester,” confirmed United’s manager. “He will start individual training [at Carrington], yeah.”
The manager also spoke on the 22-year-old joining in with squad training as The Reds enter a busy period of the campaign.
“Yes of course there is coming a time. The time is not now, but he is making good progress, and we will see when he is ready to return into the squad.”
United currently sit in fifth in the Premier League, one point outside of the top four, and will be hoping that a healthy Jadon Sancho can help them leap into the Champions League positions.
A striker is also on the agenda in the January transfer window, however, Ten Hag also detailed the difficulties of purchasing players mid-season.
“It is always difficult, strikers are expensive and especially in the winter. But you have to set the limits high with what we are looking for, so maybe we have to be creative.”
