Jonny Evans was substituted after 16 minutes as Manchester United lost 4-3 against Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Manchester United fell to defeat in Denmark after Marcus Rashford was sent off with Erik ten Hag‘s Reds cruising 2-0, with the side eventually falling to a 4-3 loss in the final minutes of the game.

Despite two goals from Rasmus Højlund and a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, United were unable to hold on to their leads with lapses in concentration rife in the defensive line.

Jonny Evans, who started the tie at centre-back alongside Harry Maguire, was playing well before he pulled up nowhere near the ball with an apparent muscle problem, where he was eventually taken off.

“I’m not sure in this moment. He has to come off,” Ten Hag said when asked about the severity and type of injury.

“I think it was a pity because he was part of it from that good part in the game where we were controlling, very composed and calm, it’s the way I see my team. Yeah, but he had to come off and I think still we are in control, still we are leading. So we have to see how bad it is.

“It’s not about 11 players. We have more players and we have good players, so we have good replacements to solve that.”

Evans was replaced by Raphaël Varane, who has not started three fixtures in a row for United and will likely play against Luton on Saturday if Evans cannot return in time.
