Erik ten Hag outlines four key traits he wants to see from Manchester United players
The Manchester United manager addressed the media prior to this weekend’s Premier League match-up between his team and Southampton.
The Red Devils survived a 7-0 loss to Liverpool to upset Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa League, and they will be confident that they can put additional pressure on Southampton, who are attempting to stay up in the Premier League.
The Saints are in good spirits with 13 games left after a 1-0 win over their old rivals Leicester City moved them back within a point of the Premier League’s safe regions.

As United aim to get back into gears in the Premier League, against Southampton, Ten Hag spoke to the media about the four key traits he wants to see from Manchester United players in relation to their character, determination, resilience, and personalities.
Speaking to the press on Thursday evening, Ten Hag said: “I think when the season goes to the end it’s going to be even more difficult for every team, because the pressure will be higher and higher. You need character, you need determination, you need resilience, you need a team with personalities.

“I think we already showed now several times in this season [that] this team can deal with setbacks. Today (against Real Betis) we have seen an example, before as well after Brentford for instance, after Arsenal when we bounced back, after [Manchester] City we bounced back.
“Today I will say this is part one, because Sunday has to come another one, but I think this team can rely on that they can bounce back – but it demands a lot of energy and a lot of togetherness from a lot of players to get the performance as we showed today,” he told the media after the Betis game.
“There is a big challenge if you want to win silverware, and as I said, as this season goes on, when you finally go for the final positions in the league for the trophies, then the challenge will be higher and then you need a strong character as a team to win that.”
