Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United side started their 2023 season off with a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.

With Marcus Rashford adding his fourth goal in as many games after Casemiro and Luke Shaw gave Manchester United a comfortable lead, one shadow cast over the fixture was the unfortunate injury of Donny van de Beek.

Just before half time, the Dutch midfielder was subject to a horrible tackle from Marcos Senesi who slipped into the player, bending his right knee backwards.

Despite the midfielder being able to walk off the field, the injury looked very worrying, and Erik ten Hag has now offered an update on the player.

It is “not looking good” for Van de Beek, Ten Hag said at full time. “We have to wait 24 hours.”

Speaking on the fixture in general, Ten Hag explained that although he is happy about the result, he was not happy about the performance and branded the win “lucky.”

“I am happy with 3-0, that is obvious and quite clear but today was not our best game. We didn’t play smart as a team and sometimes we were lucky,” he said.

“We scored great goals and should have scored more. We could have conceded too but great saves from David de Gea, I am not happy with that. It is something we have to avoid.”

With United making it six wins from their last six fixtures, Ten Hag’s side is really starting to take shape under his guise, and with the club now drawing on points with 3rd-placed Newcastle despite having a game in hand on them, they are slowly but surely establishing their place in the Premier League top four.
