Erik ten Hag has issued three Manchester United injury updates as Erik ten Hag’s men lost against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

In Manchester United‘s final USA pre-season fixture of 2024 against Liverpool, Erik ten Hag started Marcus Rashford with an eye on the upcoming Community Shield against Manchester City.

Both teams created early opportunities, but Liverpool scored first through Fabio Carvalho, whose deflected shot beat André Onana. Liverpool extended their lead when Curtis Jones converted Mohamed Salah’s low cross. Despite United’s numerous chances, they couldn’t score in the first half.

In the second half, Liverpool continued their dominance, with Konstantinos Tsimikas scoring their third goal by capitalizing on a rebound from Onana’s save. The match took a further downturn for United as Will Fish, who had replaced Jonny Evans at halftime, was stretchered off with an ankle injury in the 70th minute.

The game concluded with United making several substitutions, giving more minutes to youth players, but ultimately failing to score, resulting in a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag explained that the injury Fish sustained was that of an impact problem, while both Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans also had to come off after halftime.

“Always, we have to see what’s going on, the assessment,” he told club media when asked about the trio. “With Will Fish, it’s an impact injury, but we also had to sub at half-time, Jonny Evans, because he was ill.

“Victor Lindelof was a precaution. So yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be.”

Ten Hag had also revealed before the game that Harry Maguire had been left out of the squad to face Liverpool as a precaution.

Rasmus Højlund will be sidelined for six weeks as he recovers from a hamstring issue, while Leny Yoro will be out for around three months after he fractured his metatarsal. Once the squad lands back in Manchester, more tests will be conducted to assess Yoro.
