Erik ten Hag told to shut up and focus on Manchester United after Ajax and Liverpool comments
Erik ten Hag has been told to “shut up” and focus on his current job at Manchester United following his comments surrounding both Ajax and Liverpool.
Ahead of Manchester United‘s recent FA Cup final victory over Manchester City last weekend, Erik ten Hag held an extensive interview with Dutch media, covering a wide range of topics.
Beyond speaking openly about his current position as manager at Old Trafford, Ten Hag also issued his thoughts on Ajax’s current problems as well as Liveprool‘s appointment of Arnie Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer.

“The squad is completely out of balance. You really need to improve that,” Ten Hag told Voetbal International about Ajax’s current situation. “And that also takes time; maybe it will take another year because they have made a mess of it. That is unprecedented.
“How were they able to say goodbye to players like Daley Blind and Davy Klaassen? I really thought that was so scandalous, the way that happened. So bad for Ajax.
“They should never have gotten rid of Davy Klaassen. Such a player is so important for the group, for the club. You want to guard that DNA; you must guard it. He will always continue to go for your club, even if others give up because he is a true Ajax player. Daley Blind, same story. How stupid can you be?
“It is such a beautiful club, and we have created so many beautiful things there; you hope that the club can continue to build on that.”
Further, he also aimed a dig toward new Liverpool manager Slot, explaining that he feels Slot’s Feyenoord are not all they have been cracked up to be.
“People have been going overly lyrical about Feyenoord,” he continued.
“Feyenoord were steady this year, but not top. PSV Eindhoven were two classes better in all areas. In terms of dominating the ball, in terms of putting pressure, in terms of intensity, you name it.”
However, Dutch journalist and former footballer Wim Kieft has reacted to the comments, slamming Ten Hag and effectively telling him to shut up and focus on his own job.
“While you have your hands full with Manchester United, a job you are in the process of getting bored with, as Ten Hag, you also lecture everyone in the meantime,” he wrote.
“At Ajax, they don’t understand anything. Marc Overmars should have been treated like a saint. It is not Ajax but Overmars who has been transgressing. You can’t let those misconducts go over your head as a club, but we now know Ten Hag thinks differently.
“After two particularly lean seasons, worry about yourself and Manchester United instead of lecturing others.”
