Erik ten Hag has admitted that Manchester United were “very careful” when asked about Leny Yoro and Rasmus Højlund’s situations.
United’s third pre-season match against Arsenal began at a fast pace, with both teams creating early chances. Amad Diallo had a promising opportunity but shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Shortly after, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund combined brilliantly, with the 21-year-old striker powering past Ayden Heaven to score.
Unfortunately, Højlund had to be substituted moments later due to a reported hamstring injury, with Hannibal Mejbri replacing him.
Gabriel Jesus equalised before the 30-minute drinks break, although there were suspicions of offside. Leny Yoro had to be replaced during that break, marking the second injury substitution of the game. The remainder of the half saw little action until halftime.
In the second half, Gabriel Martinelli scored the winning goal with 10 minutes left to play. United responded with a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout after the match.
The injuries to Højlund and Yoro seem to be significant concerns for Erik ten Hag. However, the manager may have lowered some worries when discussing the injuries after the game.
While the Dutchman explained that he won’t be able to provide a detailed assessment of the injuries right now, he did state that they had been “very careful” with both players, suggesting they were more on the side of precaution rather than serious concerns.
“Of course, it is too short [to assess the injuries]. We have to wait over 24 hours, then we hopefully know more,” he told club media.
“We were very careful, especially with Leny, he did only 50 per cent of the sessions. He was very disappointed he had to come off but let’s be positive and see what comes out.”
Further updates are expected in the coming days, with United’s next clash coming against Real Betis on Thursday.
