Erik ten Hag is being considered for a bizarre managerial comeback following his Manchester United dismissal in October 2024.

Manchester United sacked former manager Erik ten Hag in October 2024 after the Dutchman left the club 21st in the Europa League and 13th in the Premier League table.

The dismissal came as a result of a 2-1 loss away from home against West Ham, but it was a decision that had been coming following a shocking 2023/24 campaign and dreadful start after the club chose to keep him and spend £200 million on improving his squad during the summer of 2024.

Although Ruud van Nistelrooy took temporary charge of the team in the interim, Rúben Amorim was then appointed as the club’s next permanent head coach. However, many of the issues that plagued Ten Hag’s period at the helm have remained in place.

The Dutchman has since been seen enjoying his time off from football, visiting several club matches such as Borussia Dortmund his former side Ajax.

Ten Hag linked with a bizarre return

While managers who are sacked in the middle of the season often take the rest of the campaign off to assess their options and see which vacancies appear in the summer, Ten Hag has been linked with several positions.

He was recently subject to intense speculation surrounding the Dortmund job, while there were also claims that he had caught the eye of Serie A side AS Roma.

However, according to Dutch outlet AD, the 55-year-old has now been considered by Eredivisie team Feyenoord as they look for a potential replacement for Brian Priske, who was dismissed from his role on Monday.

However, it would be a bizarre move for Ten Hag to entertain such an offer, as Feyenoord are known to be arch-rivals with Ajax, where he is beloved as the coach who brought them three Eredivisie titles in a row.

Ten Hag not Feyenoord’s only United option

However, as explained by the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is not the only former United coach Feyenoord are considering.

It has also been said that the Dutch outfit are also eyeing Rene Hake as another replacement for Priske, with Ten Hag’s former assistant also a man of previous first-team managerial experience.

At the club, U21s coach Pascal Bosschaart has stepped up to take charge of the club while they search for a replacement, and he will take charge as Feyenoord face AC Milan in a Champions League tie on Wednesday evening.

“We are glad that Pascal has shown himself ready to step in on a temporary basis,” Feyenoord’s Director Dennis te Kloese said. “I have spoken to many players and staff, and everyone realises that we still have a great deal to compete for.”
