Erik ten Hag explained his Manchester United line-up for the Premier League encounter against Leicester City as Wout Weghorst starts his 10th game in a row since joining the club.

The United manager has decided to slightly rotate his side, with Raphael Varane being rested for Barcelona’s upcoming visit to Old Trafford, but has largely stuck with what he knows ahead of the game.

“You have to keep everyone fresh but also look to the opponent – tactical-wise, what can you do, where can you beat them,” he told Sky Sports in relation to his line-up ahead of kick-off.

Victor Lindelof has come into the side, with the Dutch boss confirming that Harry Maguire is unavailable for the game through injury. The Swede starts alongside Lisandro Martinez at the back.

Wout Weghorst also starts and could be used as an advanced midfielder again, as seen at the Camp Nou on Thursday.

The striker has started every game since he’s been available after joining the club on loan last month. Despite scoring just once so far, Ten Hag believes he makes the team better.

“I think he brings a lot to the team,” the boss continued. “From the moment he came, the attacking line is more dynamic and even better at pressing. So I think we improved our game from the moment he came in.”

Another loanee starts for The Reds in Marcel Sabitzer. He was unavailable for the Europa League clash midweek due to suspension but is now set to make his third appearance in United colours.

Ten Hag will be hoping that the Austrian can continue to adapt to the team and country and show a solid performance.

“I think his second game was better than his first, especially out of possession,” the manager detailed. “You have to get used to it. Premier League is tougher than any other league.”
