Erik ten Hag explains how Manchester United can beat Man City in Premier League clash
Erik ten Hag says that Manchester United must have a ‘winning attitude’ going into the weekend’s derby if they want to win against Manchester City.
United were underwhelming in their last outing against their neighbours, with Anthony Martial’s late brace in the 6-3 defeat saving an overly embarrassing scoreline.
Ten Hag said that his team had a ‘lack of belief’ against the Champions back in October and stressed that the same mistakes cannot be made this time around in the Premier League.
However, with eight wins on the spin, there is a positive mood at Old Trafford. There are high spirits ahead of the fixture.
“I think we can compete with every team but obviously Manchester City, when they’re at their best, they are hard opponents for everyone,” Ten Hag told TalkSPORT. “But we have to play our best and then we have a chance.”
Asked about the performance in October, Ten Hag made clear that it was not good enough and explained how United can win this tie: “If we do, [play like that], then we don’t have a chance.
“It’s up to us to have a good team, the right co-operation, the right attitude on the pitch, especially if you talk about attitude. A winning attitude is what we need on Saturday.”
The United manager is very specific in his wording when speaking to the press, and his recent changes in phrases are an example that the team are in the right direction.
Marcus Rashford will be a dangerous weapon in this game. He’s scored 15 goals for The Reds so far this season and is one of the most in-form players in the league.
“We can use him also as a tactical weapon, and he is scoring from every position,” said Ten Hag about his No.10. “If he keeps this focus, I am convinced he will score even more goals. If he keeps investing in training, investing in the games, I’m sure [of it] – I’m convinced.”
