Erik ten Hag receives double Man United boost, with two injury doubts in squad for Brentford clash
Erik ten Hag has received a boost, with two Manchester United players set to play against Brentford on Saturday evening.
As Manchester United prepare to face The Bees in an eagerly anticipated Premier League clash, both teams are navigating the aftermath of the recent international break, which brought its fair share of challenges.
For United, English defender Harry Maguire had a scare when he exited the Three Lions camp with an injury concern.
The international break also offered some important recovery time for certain players, including Lisandro Martínez, who utilized the time to train with the Argentina squad in a bid to regain full fitness.
Martínez’s potential return to form could inject a boost of confidence into United’s defensive setup as they seek to contain Brentford’s potent attacking threat with Ivan Toney leading the line.
There were initial concerns when the Argentine central defender was not spotted in training images at Carrington ahead of the game. However, new images of the squad travelling up to the capital have shown both Maguire and Martínez with the squad.
The defensive pairing returning to the side provides Ten Hag with stronger backline options, with Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Raphaël Varane all seemingly fit as well.
Another player whose availability is somewhat unknown is Kobbie Mainoo after the teenager missed Thursday’s training session with an illness.
United did not leave Manchester until Saturday morning, which is a rare decision for an away game. This was due to the late kick-off time, and it will provide the likes of Mainoo as much time as possible to recover, according to the MEN.
The 8pm kick-off was criticised by United boss Ten Hag, who also stated that he “feels sorry” for the travelling supporters for the game.
